Plains Game
With such a wide variety of unique and distinctive species available in Africa, a plains game safari with Gateway to Africa Safaris promises to be an exhilarating hunt.
The different hunting areas and concessions and the diverse species they offer, make each day and each hunt a new experience. Our plains game hunting terrain varies from open plains to mountainous dense bushveld, each with its own challenges and rewards.
Hunting season in South Africa runs from 1 February to the end of November, but it is advisable to plan your hunt according to your hunting preferences. We recommend that rifle hunts are scheduled from March to October, while bow hunts are best suited for July through September.
Temperatures in Winter (May to August) vary between 40° F (5°C) in the early morning to 68°F (20°C) during mid-day. Autumn and Spring (February to April and September to November) generally offer temperatures of between 59°F (15°C) to 86°F (30°C). Other African countries have different temperatures, hunting seasons and natural conditions to consider and we are happy to assist you with planning for these hunts.
